Model Basics: 6 top Male Models to Watch

In the past Models Basics post, the focus was on female models. And for good reason: female models make up a greater percentage of the modeling industry & have always received more attention & more money, than their male counterparts.

However, even if the boys aren't raking in as much money, that doesn't mean that they're not catching our eyes. Here, we'll get to know a few of the top & most stare-worthy guys in the modeling game.

   1. Hrishant Goswami

Hrishant Goswami is a winner of the 2004 Gladrags Manhunt contest. He got noticed during his stint on a reality show before being evicted.

Having studied in the US & Nigeria, he finally managed to become a household name & now wants to cash in on his new found popularity by trying his luck in Bollywood. He was never serious about his occupation until he entered the reality show house.

He is now more focused about his career & will concentrate on Bollywood. But he'll continue modelling till he gets his big break.

   2. Farhad Shahnawaz

The dynamite combination of chiselled features, superbly sculpted physique & smoldering eyes makes Farhad Shahnawaz one of the hottest models today. In his oozing supreme confidence while strutting down the ramp or blazing billboards across the United States as the model for Chi, this stunner is the envy of men in his hometown of Hyderabad.

His sinuous grace & natural charm, which earned him a spot in the final 4 of Gladrags Manhunt 2004, make him a favourite among designers like Rohit Bal, Manish Malhotra, Wendell Rodricks & Ritu Kumar. But all hasn't been smooth sailing. From battling severe asthma all his life to surviving a career threatening accident, Farhad Shahnawaz has overcome uncommon odds to emerge a winner.

   3. Freddy Daruwala

Hailing from a conservative traditional family, Freddy Daruwala enrolled himself for Masters in Business Administration to please his family though he had always nurtured a dream of making it big in the world of modelling. The Surat native held onto this dream & tentatively embarked on his journey with few modeling assignments & a NIFT showing in & around the city. In 2007, he participated in & won 1st Runners Up of Haywards Mr. India World, moved his base to Mumbai to make a serious attempt at modeling & destiny took over.

He soon landed the Nivea 4 Men campaign & his career grew in leaps & bounds with campaigns for Raymonds, Reliance, Liberty, Tic Tac & Manforce in addition to walking for all of the leading designers. Freddy, who regards health & fitness guru Mickey Mehta as his guide, mentioned he wants to tip the scales at 85kg: though his melting brown eyes & lean physique have already made him the preferred choice in fashion circles!!! Freddy has an effortless elegance, in the way he both moves & dresses.

Strolling down MG Road in Bangalore, Acquin Pais bumped into industry expert Prasad Bidapa & the rest is fashion history. As work begun filtering in, Pais bagged a stellar campaign with Spykar Jeans & for the next few years he appeared in editorials, campaigns & walked the runways of Dolce Gabbana, Etro, Paul Smith & Ralph Lauren in Milan.

With lucrative work coming in from Europe, he shifted to London for 4 yrs. It was a good move as he got paid several times more than he'd have been paid here for similar projects!

   5. Anup Pegu

Ladies & gentlemen, prepare yourselves for a fashion moment. I believe the unconventional looks & effortless charm of Anup Pegu're fast becoming a one-man cult.

As well he should be! His story is right out of the fairytale fantasy linked with modeling...hailing from Assam, Deepankar Kashyap bumped into him while shopping in Guwahati & that meeting subsequently led to a portfolio shoot with Suvo Das..& since then there was no looking back.

New Delhi was on the agenda..& with it campaigns for Nike, Reebok & Van Heusen in addition to a prestigious Ravi Chawla calendar shoot with Ayesha Thapar inspired by the works of acclaimed artist Kustav Glimt.

   6. Bharat Kundra

Bharat Kundra shot to fame when he was crowned Grasim Mr. India 2007 & bagged campaigns with Airtel, Samsung, British Council, Reliance, Avon, Octave, NIIT, Magpie, Mirari & Tata Docomo. Yet he maintained a low profile.

He advises models to believe in themselves, stay irresolutely focused on their goal & work hard. There're no shortcuts & compromises. He worked hard to sustain himself there.
